Singed
Singed is very strong vs. Riven. Her advantage is being able to chase people down, however this is what Singed wants you to do. This matchup can easily favor Riven if played correctly, and being able to kill him and keep him behind. I recommend rushing a Death's Dance or Hexdrinker and aiming to kill him early. Later on you definitely need to pick off his team and create pressure.

Valor (E)

Active: Riven dashes a short distance, shielding herself from incoming damage. This is perfect for dodging skillshots and repositioning during fights. You can also cancel your ultimate animation with E → R for a quicker, more fluid engage.

Blade of the Exile (R)

Active: Riven empowers her sword, gaining bonus attack damage and the ability to launch a devastating area-of-effect attack. You can recast the ability to deal damage to all nearby enemies.

🌟 Riven's Ability Tips - Master the Blade! 🌟
1. Q: Broken Wings

Key Points:
Weave your Q’s between auto-attacks for maximum damage! Each Q not only boosts your damage but also grants you mobility, allowing you to reposition quickly.
The third Q is crucial for gap-closing and knocking back enemies. If you land it right, it can completely change the tide of a fight!
Spacing your Q’s while considering your Q’s knockup is essential for chaining your combos and maximizing your damage output.
Remember to use your Q’s wisely—don’t waste them when you don’t need to move or engage. Proper Q usage is critical for successful Riven gameplay.
2. W: Ki Burst

Key Points:
Ki Burst is perfect for stunning and disrupting enemy combos, especially when they’re trying to engage on you.
The

Combo with Q for instant burst damage—the third Q knocks them back, and Ki Burst hits them while they’re in the air!
Timing is everything! Use Ki Burst immediately after your Q combo to maximize damage output and crowd control.
3. E: Valor

Key Points:
Valor is not just a shield, but also your escape tool and positioning tool. Use it to dodge skillshots or reposition when you're getting caught.
Animation canceling with E → R is one of the most powerful tools you have. It allows you to execute your ultimate faster and engage your enemies before they even have time to react.
When you need to kite or get away, Valor is your best friend for dodging enemy abilities and escaping sticky situations.
Don’t just shield with E—use it to reposition quickly, so you can either engage or avoid dangerous situations.
4. R: Blade of the Exile

Key Points:
Riven’s Ultimate grants you a huge damage boost and the ability to deal massive AOE damage with the recast. Always prioritize key targets during your engage.
The second activation of Blade of the Exile is where the magic happens—an AOE burst that can wipe out groups of enemies. Use it strategically for maximum impact!
E → R combo: Try to dash in with E and instantly use R to surprise your enemies. It cancels animation and makes your engagement quicker than they expect.
Remember, your ultimate gives you massive attack damage, but it’s all about timing—when to burst and when to wait for the right moment.
🔥 General Tips for Riven Combos 🔥
Auto-Q → auto-Q → auto-Qflip → auto: This is the fast combo to burst enemies quickly. Remember to space out your Q’s and auto-attacks for maximum damage!
Tiamat → W: A sneaky and underrated combo! It deals great burst damage and syncs well with your Ki Burst.
E → Tiamat → Q: Fast burst damage! It also helps you land the third Q flip while applying Tiamat’s splash damage.
Q → Q → E → R → 3rd Q: This combo catches opponents off guard and allows you to gap-close quickly, dealing massive damage.
Flash Initiation: Q → Q → E → R → FLASH → 3rd Q: This is a game-changing initiation combo for starting fights from a distance. It takes time to master, but once you get it, it’s incredible!
🌟 Final Tips 🌟
Mastering Riven is all about fluid combos, timing, and decision-making. She’s all about speed and precision in battle.
Max your Q first for the damage and mobility it provides, then E for sustain and better positioning. Always upgrade R at level 6, 11, and 16 for that huge power boost.
Animation canceling with E → R is a game-changer. Use it to execute faster and throw off your enemies’ timing.
🌟 Mastering Riven requires practice, patience, and understanding her combos. Once you get the rhythm of her abilities down, you'll become an unstoppable force on the battlefield! 🌟
I already know how to combine them and feel pretty comfortable doing it. Chaining CC and abilities is something I make sure to do, but that's all down to timing. Mechanically speaking, learning fast combos is something you need to be able to do to burst enemies. I'm going to list all of the essential Riven combos here! Later, if this guide receives good feedback, I will make a combo guide.
1. Fast Combo Basics:
The first thing you need to know is the fast combo, auto attacking while weaving in your Q,

Auto Attack → Q → Auto Attack → Q → Auto Attack → 3rd Q → Auto Attack.
2. Understanding Your Passive:
Understanding how your Passive: Runic Blade functions is key to getting the most of your damage off—those auto attacks sure do hurt. Every good Riven player does this by spacing out their Q's (which includes keeping in mind your third Q’s knockup) and their auto attacks.
It is crucial to include your Q's in between your auto attacks! If not, you miss out on a ton of damage. Learning this and doing it consistently is essential to playing Riven.
3. Tiamat > W (Underrated Burst Combo):
Tiamat → W is a very good, underrated burst ability.
4. Chain Combos:
Here are some combos I use that you can chain together and do good damage in both duels and team fights. Have fun with making your own combos as well—there are many different Riven animation canceling methods!
Fast Combo (Basic):
Auto Q → Auto Q → Auto Q → Flip → Auto → Q
5. How to Cancel Your Ultimate Animation:
Your E: Valor can cancel pretty much all of your other abilities' animations. When you hit level 6, to cancel that long ultimate animation and move even faster to your opponent, simply E → R every time.
Be sure to gap close, but not with your Q unless you need to, since that’s your main damage source. Every scenario is situational, which is why I’ll be demonstrating more lane matchups in the future. However, you want to go in like this a lot—damage + bonus range OP.
6. Quick Burst Combo:
E → Tiamat → Q
Great for quick burst, also effective for your flip (third Q).
7. Catching Your Opponents Off Guard:
Q → Q → E → R → 3rd Q
This is great for catching your opponents off guard, and if used properly, can gain a large amount of distance in a very short amount of time.
8. Same Thing with Flash:
Q → Q → E → R → Flash → 3rd Q
This is a great way to initiate fights from long distance! Takes time to perfect and master consistently, which is the part that slows me down when completing it.
9. Personal Favorite (Hard to Master):
I switch it up a bit, but one of my unexpected burst combos for Riven is as follows:
E → Tiamat → W → Auto Attack → Q
Into a fast combo with autos.
That’s a bit easier to do when you first begin learning it, but after a while, I decided to sub in more autos because, theoretically, it’s more sustained damage. Soon, a single attack-speed item for her will be dominant.
10. Another Combo with Autos (Sustained Damage):
E → Tiamat → Auto Attack → W → Auto Attack → Q
Into a fast combo with autos.
Conclusion:
I will be updating this section with even more advanced combos and tactics. Stay tuned!

Passive: Runic Blade
Each of Riven’s abilities empowers her basic attacks. Learning how to weave these auto attacks in between abilities will maximize your damage output.

Riven performs a series of three slashes, with each slash dealing damage to nearby enemies. The third slash knocks back enemies, making it an important part of her combo.
W: Ki Burst
Riven releases a burst of energy around her, dealing damage and stunning nearby enemies. This ability is great for locking down targets after hitting your Qs.
E: Valor
Riven dashes a short distance in the target direction, shielding herself. This is crucial for dodging enemy skill shots and for canceling other ability animations (including her ultimate).
R: Blade of the Exile
Riven empowers her blade, gaining bonus attack damage and the ability to launch a devastating area-of-effect attack. Riven can also activate R → Valor to quickly close the gap and cancel her ultimate animation.
Have fun!
Happy Combo Practicing!
This is the toughest part to master, in my opinion, snowballing your plan, then the rest of the game for your team. Riven is so intuitive to the player that she can do things in her way! That's why I encourage people who haven't found their way in the league and have higher reaction times, you gain more options in the hands of an experienced player (which mainly takes dedication). If you coordinate ganks and assassinations with your team, you can take the enemy down. Hitting power spikes with Riven occurs often after 6, , so getting enough cs to afford your items on your first back is the goal. A lot of ganks will happen, map awareness is key, and vision helps you set up plays.
Getting through the lane and setting up your snowball are examples I think this guide lacks, as well as the synergies and more matchups. Good in-game decision-making comes from practicing her correctly! Combo knowledge keeps me over the top :D
I hope I was able to HELP you all out and inspire you to pick up this amazing champion. She is incredibly fun to play with when you get comfortable with her.
Support on my YouTube channel is tremendously appreciated! I hope to see you there, I love making content.
